Lost in Translation
Sofia Coppola directs this dark comedy (not quite black) of an aging actor and a recent college graduate finding genuine friendship and hope in the midst of their desperate and lonely lives.
If you're not a Bill Murray fan, this film may change your mind. He still carries that wry, sardonic smile, but here he's not the playing his typical wiseass role. His portrayal of washed up actor Bob Harris is moving and tragically funny. Scarlett Johansson plays the wife of a celebrity photographer (Giovanni Ribisi) who breaks through Bob's shell and finds a genuine friend in the midst of the strange and bizarre world of modern Tokyo.
